Model for estimating thiamine deficiency-related mortality of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) offspring and variation in the Baltic salmon M74 syndrome

چکیده

Thiamine (vitamin B1) deficiency of salmonines, caused by an abundant lipid-rich fish diet and consequently, the abundance polyunsaturated fatty acids, is called M74 syndrome in Baltic Sea. Because its deleterious effects on wild Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) stocks progeny production cultivation, a model was developed to derive annual female-specific mortality percentages yolk-sac fry (YSFM) from free thiamine concentrations unfertilized eggs. In years with high incidence, thiamine-deficient females were larger, larger condition factor (CF) than non-M74 females. Otherwise, generally smaller. The mean CF most higher that compiled enables cost-effective estimation YSFM individual female salmon, without incubation eggs hatched for several months, thus benefitting management their efficient utilization.

Atlantic salmon – Salmo salar

Distribution Th e species’ range encompasses Europe, North America, and Green land (1) (Fig.1). Non-anadromous forms occur in Europe in a few land-locked locations in Norway and Sweden, and throughout the Neva/Lake Ladoga system and Karelia regions of Russia. In North America non-anadromous forms occurred throughout most of the species’ historical range, as far west as Lake Ontario, and remain ...

Immunoglobulin Isotypes in Atlantic Salmon, Salmo Salar

There are three major immunoglobulin (Ig) isotypes in salmonid fish: IgM, IgD and IgT, defined by the heavy chains μ, δ and τ, respectively. As a result of whole genome duplication in the ancestor of the salmonid fish family, Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) possess two highly similar Ig heavy chain gene complexes (A and B), comprising two μ genes, two δ genes, three intact τ genes and five τ pseu...

Lysozyme transgenic Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.)

Disease outbreaks are a major constraint to salmon aquaculture worldwide. Therefore, there is considerable interest in ¢nding means to alleviate this problem by enhancing their innate immune system. Because lysozyme is an important component of this system, we generated a line of transgenic Atlantic salmon using a gene construct consisting of a rainbow trout lysozyme gene under the control of t...

The role of the feeding migration and diet of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) in yolk-sack-fry mortality (M74) in the Baltic Sea

Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) populations exist in about 80 rivers draining to the Baltic Sea. Salmon reproduction has ceased in many rivers due to anthropological changes in river conditions and in some cases salmon stocks have been lost due to overfishing. To compensate for losses in smolt production, large-scale smolt releases into rivers have been carried out since the 1950s in the Balti...
